Dr. Stephen Black

Stephen received his doctorate in sport science from Rocky Mountain University and Brigham Young University in Provo Utah. Along with his responsibilities at Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida he is an assistant professor in the department of Physical Therapy and Exercise Science at Florida Gulf Coast University. Stephen has 30+ years’ experience in the health and wellness industry specializing in sports medicine. He has traveled the world promoting healthy lifestyles and providing expert insight and research in areas related to rehabilitation, fitness and sports specific training. He has worked with professional teams including NFL, NBA, NHL, WNBA and ABL/NBL affiliates.
As a Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach, Stephen utilizes his expertise and experience to the benefit of his students and clients. His research pursuits include evidence based investigation of cardiac changes in endurance athletes, assistive devices to enhance performance and reduce injury and the ever growing incidence of overweight and obese youth. In addition to his above-mentioned responsibilities, Stephen is a much sought after and respected presenter to the health and wellness industry. He serves as an advisor to several organizations and non-profit entities. Most recently he attended the Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha, NE providing care for several local and collegiate swimmers.
In his spare time Stephen enjoys recreational activities such as running, cycling, swimming, skiing and experiential activities that lead to a balanced/integrated lifestyle. He has completed multiple endurance events including the Ironman World Championship in Kona, HI. Stephen’s passion is in assisting others achieve the lifestyle they aspire to. LinkedIn
